About the Podcast

Without Authority Podcast
How leaders in B2B Software and SaaS get things done through people who don’t report to them.
This podcast is about getting things done through people who don’t report to you like other teams, peers, your boss or customers. It’s for leaders in B2B software and SaaS who need a yes they can’t demand.

When you listen, you learn how to:
- Find the real reason someone is pushing back, not the safe one they give you
- Keep a tense conversation from turning into a fight
- Get a stuck decision moving when every option looks bad for someone
- Make agreements hold after everyone leaves the room

That leads to fewer stalled projects, fewer escalations, and more yeses that actually turn into action.

I spent more than 20 years in enterprise software before I started Without Authority.

I wrote code in Dubai. I worked in technical sales at Microsoft. I built a solutions consulting team in North America. And I was COO of a company when we got it ready to be acquired.

Every one of those jobs had the same catch ...

What I needed to get done depended on people who didn't report to me; other teams, peers, my boss, customers. Even when I had the title, the title wasn't what got them to say yes.

So I got curious about what did. I spent years studying how people actually think, push back, and decide. Then I used what I learned in my own day-to-day work.

Here's what I found ...

Getting a yes you can't demand isn't a personality trait. It's a small set of skills. Most leaders pick them up the hard way, over 15 years, or never.

That's why this podcast exists. I want to help you get good at this, and I also want you to pass it on. A leader who can do this is useful. A leader who can teach it to the people around them changes how their whole team works.

That's the mission.
